Why I write books for kids

I write children’s books because, even in retirement, teaching is still part of who I am. After spending so many years in the classroom, I understand how children feel, what makes them laugh, and how stories can quietly teach without feeling like a lesson. Writing for kids lets me keep nurturing young minds, just in a different way. Instead of lesson plans and report cards, I now use characters, adventures, and imagination to share the values and curiosity I spent a lifetime encouraging.

Another reason I write is the sense of joy and freedom it gives me. Retirement finally gives me the time to tell the stories I always carried with me but never had the space to write down. Creating children’s books reconnects me with the wonder that first inspired me to become a teacher, and it feels deeply meaningful to know my stories might comfort, inspire, or spark a love of reading in a child somewhere. In that way, I’m still teaching—just through pages instead of a classroom.
